Extended public key
A public key plus derivation information that can generate eligible non-hardened descendant public keys.
In more detail
An extended public key, often called an xpub, lets software derive public keys and monitor the corresponding addresses. It does not ordinarily provide spending authority on its own. Its reach makes it useful for accounting, but sharing it can reveal more wallet activity than sharing one receiving address.
How you might use it
Your accounting dashboard tracks addresses derived from your xpub without getting signing keys; it still sees more than one payment address.
