Sidechain

A separate blockchain connected to another chain while using its own consensus security.

PLAIN-ENGLISH DEFINITION

In more detail

A sidechain can make asset representations or messages available in another environment through a bridge. Its validators and consensus rules still determine its own chain's security. Being connected to Ethereum does not automatically give it Ethereum's security, so bridge assumptions and sidechain consensus are both part of the picture.

IN THE WILD

How you might use it

"I bridged out of Ethereum. This sidechain's own consensus now secures the chain where the representation lives."
